BEST PLACE TO START
The best place to start to get any benefits for a veteran is on their website: http://www.michiganveterans.com/ Go to the web page and click on the link that says "Locate a benefits counselor".
These counselors are highly trained individuals that know how to help a vet get the help they need. Their services are free. They are important because benefits from the VA come from different departments and you have to know the right department to contact. The system is not coordinated.
The hot-line can also tell you where to locate a counselor: 1-800-MichVet (800-642-4837)
or 1-800-455-5228
